The MK-06 knife is a premium knife handcrafted in the MK Knives & Tools workshop, designed for the needs of extreme survival.
With a massive 7.0 mm blade and a total length of 320 mm, it can handle extreme off-road tasks. It will effectively replace an ax when chipping wood. Felling small trees, chopping limbs, baring larger pieces will not be a problem with the use of this knife. Clearing up the area for the camp (machete function) is also a task that it can fully cope with. The MK-06 is a knife you can rely on universally for heavier work, but also for more subtle tasks such as slicing, cutting, etc.
About knifemaking standards and process at MK Knives & Tools
Knifemaker Marcin Kampka does not accept compromises. Each of his products is planned down to the smallest detail, each project, especially a custom one, must have individual features. Each knife must have a perfect finish, sawing, chamfering etc. All screws – even the smallest ones, are slightly chamfered to remove angular finishes. Each knife is treated as a separate unit and so is the holster. One must match the other, the patterns on the holster must be consistent with the patterns on the handles etc. By inspecting each MK Knives & Tools knife, we not only see the product, but also “feel” the hours spent in the workshop. When buying a product by Marcin Kampka, we buy many hours of his work. We can be sure that the knife has been pampered down to the smallest detail.
About the presented version of the MK-06 knife
Durable steel as the core of the knife construction
The presented MK-06 is made of one piece of Sleipner steel. So it is a full-tang knife. Sleipner is a high-quality alloy steel, with its properties significantly exceeding the commonly used tool steels on the market. This steel is very resistant to mechanical damage (chipping, etc.), twisting and overload. Sharpens relatively easily and remains sharp for a long time. With proper treatment, it has quite good anti-corrosion properties. Due to its high impact strength, sleipner steel is often used in large-size knives, naturally intended for extreme use.
Grinds and blade shape for effective cutting
The blade of the knife is flat grind and profiled in the drop point style. This design helps to make the best use of the really large blade. It should be noted that the slightly curved design of the knife (arc from the end of the handle to the tip of the blade) in combination with a properly profiled, undercut handle gives the whole a more aggressive character and, if necessary, allows you to use the force put into a sweeping cut when chopping (for example, a larger piece of wood, etc.) more effectively.
On the back of the blade, there is a jimpig, which makes it easier to press the blade of the knife against the material being cut. This element enables precise cuts, makes it easier to guide the cutting edge along the material and helps with cuts that require pressure.
Durable, well-concieved knife handle
The slender, neat oval of the handle fits perfectly and lies securely in the hand, its gentle profiling helps to prevent the hand from slipping onto the cutting edge. The rounded ridge protruding on each side of the handle makes the knife comfortable and secure.
The ergonomic, oval shaped handles are made of a very durable G10 composite enriched with green epoxy resin inserts. G10 is resistant to moisture, temperature changes, most solvents and acids, has high resistance to mechanical damage. In the presented knife, the material of the covers has a rough pattern that prevents the handle from slipping in the hand. The handle covers are screwed together with sandblasted steel screws. The screws complete the knife design, elegantly matching the stonewash-style blade.
At the end of the knife handle you will find a hidden hole for attaching an additional cord, which can be used as a protection against dropping the knife during operation, or an additional gripper that facilitates removing the knife from the holster. Originally, it includes a paracord section with a shade matched to the design.
Refined Kydex® holster and various mounting options
The knife has a holster made of hand-formed Kydex® material, which is characterized by high impact and scratch resistance, characterized by low moisture absorption, resistance to various weather conditions and many chemicals. In the presented model, the holster is made of black material, supplemented with gray and black accessories (black grommet with gray fixing insert, gray steel screws, black washers for bolts).
The holster can be attached in several ways. It is attached to the belt with a webbing grommet made of durable nylon with a heavy weight. To backpacks, harness elements, MOLLE® solutions, we attach it with a string or paracord threaded through the opening in the holster, which can also be used to attach additional accessories (e.g. tinder, etc.).
For consistency in the appearance, the holster features a “reflection” of the pattern on the handle.
