Description

MK Knives & Tools Nomad “Fear The Bear” knife is a versatile and universal blade. Planned as the first-choice tool for outdoor trips, camping, and extended stays in the wilderness, its modern yet understated design is likely to appeal to a wide range of users. Traditionalists will appreciate its optimal dimensions and shape, which utilize natural hand grooves, while fans of modern solutions will appreciate the materials used in the manufacturing process and the finishing techniques.

Nomad is the knife that would undoubtedly answer the question of which blade to take when you can only choose one tool (to be able to work with it as universally as possible). Among all MK Knives & Tools models, the Nomad can be used in the most versatile manner.

*The presented Nomad has a blade made of Vanadis 4 Extra steel with great durability with bead blasted finish. The drop point profile knife blade has been made with versatille full flat grind (FFG).

**The 4 mm (0.14″) thick blade combined with particularly resistant to overload steel provides excellent cutting properties and resistance during demanding use. The handle linings are made of Black Canvas Micarta with grey blue G10. The set includes a grey holster made of Kydex with black additions and MK Knives & Tools – Multi-Purpose Guard Wax for blade care. The nuances on the blade, the colors of the handle and the pictograms on the holster are characteristic of the “Fear The Bear” series.

‘Fear The Bear’ Series – A Tribute to Nature

The ‘Fear The Bear’ series was created by MK Knives & Tools out of a need to show respect for wildlife. The bear head symbol on the sheath is not just a decoration – it is a sign to remember that people are guests in the natural world. Forests, mountains and plains have their inhabitants. Just like paw prints on the ground, MK knives from this series feature a bear paw print – a symbol of responsible presence in the field.

Nomad Knife – Versatility and Universality

The Nomad knife is produced from various types of steel (Elmax, Vanax, Vanadis 4 Extra, Vanadis 23, etc.) with different blade finish methods (PVD coatings, DLC, acid-etched, stonewash, satin). The handle is crafted from G10 composite, micarta, carbon fiber (carbon, FatCarbon) with diverse colors and unique patterns meticulously selected by the knifemaker.

For each knife made, the knifemaker forms a suitable Kydex sheath (etc.), the color scheme of which (sheath and accessories) matches the colors of the blade and handle to create a cohesive set. The materials used determine the knife’s specific applications. For instance, models with black PVD or DLC coatings and Kydex sheaths in dark colors will certainly appeal to fans of military-tactical solutions, especially considering that all sheaths can be mounted to the MOLLE system, harness elements, or tactical backpacks. On the other hand, designs in more vibrant tones will surely cater to the preferences of hiking and outdoor enthusiasts.

Blade Created For Outdoor Life

Premium Steel As A Core of the Knife Construction

**DURABLE CONSTRUCTION**: Nomad is a full-tang knife where the steel runs along entire length and width of the handle.

**STRONG STEEL**: Knife is made of one piece of Vanadis 4 Extra steel. The steel used in the knife is an extremely durable material, very hard, resistant to overload, abrasion and chipping (steel care note below).

Accurate Knife Dimensions

The dimensions of the Nomad knife determine its very universal use. Accurate length (230 mm), predisposes it to various outdoor use, while the thickness of the head (5 mm), shape and construction materials used make it useful for more serious bushcraft, survival and even tactical activities. The size of the knife will allow for skillfully performing kitchen and camp work (preparing meals, planing, etc. ), but it will also make it possible to perform heavier casual camp tasks (stabbing, punching, etc.).

Grind And Blade Shape for Efficient Cutting

**BLADE PROFLE**: The knife blade has been profiled in drop point style with universal full flat grind (FFG).

**JIMPING**: On the back of the blade there is a jimpig, which makes it easier to press the blade of the knife to the material being cut. This element enables precise cuts, makes it easier to guide the cutting edge along the material and helps with cuts that require pressure.

Durable Knife Handle

**THE SHAPE AND DESIGN OF THE HANDLE**: Slender, neat oval of the handle fits very well and lies firmly in the hand. Its gentle profiling helps to prevent the hand from slipping onto the cutting edge. The rounded spine protruding from each side of the handle makes the knife comfortable and secure.

**HANDLE MATERIALS**. The handle scales are made from Micarta and G10. Both laminates are created using epoxy resin, but they differ in their base materials—Micarta is made with canvas, while G10 is reinforced with fiberglass. In both cases, the materials are produced by compressing the base material and epoxy resin under high pressure. Micarta and G10 are highly resistant to moisture, temperature changes, most solvents and acids, and offer excellent durability against mechanical damage. The scales are attached with sturdy Torx screws, which blend seamlessly with the knife’s design.

**HOLE FOR LANYARD**: At the end of the knife handle there is a hole for attaching an additional cord, which can be used as a protection against dropping the knife during work, or an additional gripper that facilitates removing the knife from the holster. Originally, it includes a section of paracord in a shade matching the color of the knife.

Kydex/Holstex Holster And Personalization Of Carrying Options

**KYDEX/HOLSTEX**. The knife has a holster made of hand-formed Kydex/Holstex material, which is characterized by high impact and scratch resistance, characterized by low moisture absorption, resistant to various weather conditions and many chemicals.

**CARRYING OPTIONS**. The holster is attached to the belt using a textile loop. It is equipped with pass-through holes that can be optionally used to secure the holster to a backpack or tactical gear using cordage, rope, or paracord. The holster is wrapped with paracord, matching the color of the section near the knife.

The sheath allows for customization of how it’s carried. To achieve this, the knifemaker designed:

  • an optional Kydex buckle, which can be mounted on a belt or MOLLE* systems. The clip is not part of the standard set and can be purchased HERE. The clip designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems. To mount it, first remove the module with the nylon loop.
  • An additional option for customizing carry style is an angled buckle designed by the maker, which allows you to carry the knife on your belt at a chosen angle, either more discreetly or visibly. The clip can be ordered HERE.
*The buckle designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems. To attach the buckle, simply remove the module with textile loop.

Manufacturer’s recommendations for the care of uncoated Vanadis 4 Extra steel knives

The knife features a high-performance blade made from excellent European Vanadis 4 Extra steel. Known for its outstanding edge retention and resistance to heavy use, this steel is exceptionally tough. However, it’s important to note that it is not stainless.

To keep your blade in optimal condition, we recommend washing and thoroughly drying it after each use. Before storing the knife in its sheath, apply a thin layer of knife oil or wax for added protection. This process should also be repeated before longer periods of storage.

Vanadis 4 Extra develops a unique patina over time, giving each blade a distinct and personal character. It’s a great choice for those who appreciate the raw, evolving beauty of tool steel and the individual marks it acquires through real-world use.
