Description
MK Knives & Tools Nomad “Postapo” knife is a versatile and universal blade. Planned as the first-choice tool for outdoor trips, camping, and extended stays in the wilderness, its modern yet understated design is likely to appeal to a wide range of users. Traditionalists will appreciate its optimal dimensions and shape, which utilize natural hand grooves, while fans of modern solutions will appreciate the materials used in the manufacturing process and the finishing techniques.
The Nomad is the knife that would undoubtedly answer the question of which blade to take when you can only choose one tool (to be able to work with it as universally as possible). Among all MK Knives & Tools models, the Nomad can be used in the most versatile manner.
***The Nomad, in the presented version, features a blade made from one of the most sought-after, top-tier knife steels: American CPM MagnaCut. The knife blade, with an impressive spine thickness of 5.6 mm (0.22″) and a drop point profile, is crafted with a Double Grind (DG), combining a flat grind at the tip with a hollow/groove grind in the central section. The spine area of the blade is adorned with a symmetrical fuller, which reduces weight and enhances the balance of the blade.
***The handle scales are made of stylish Pineas Peak FatCarbon with black G10 liners. The set includes a black Holstex carbon sheath with color accents.
“Postapo” Series – Inspiration Matters
“Postapo” is a series inspired by books, TV shows, movies, and the post-apocalyptic world in general. The “Postapo” series stands out with pictograms in the form of a ‘radiation’ symbol, motivating vigilance and preparedness, as well as a ‘skull in a gas mask’ motif. The skull symbolizing the fleeting nature of human life with a gas mask overlay emphasizes the need for equipment upon which the user can rely in a world changed by dramatic circumstances. Sometimes, survival requires more than just the will to endure!
Nomad Knife – Versatility and Universality
The Nomad knife is produced from various types of steel (Elmax, Vanax, Vanadis 4 Extra, Vanadis 23, etc.) with different blade finish methods (PVD coatings, DLC, acid-etched, stonewash, satin). The handle is crafted from G10 composite, micarta, carbon fiber (carbon, FatCarbon) with diverse colors and unique patterns meticulously selected by the knifemaker. For each knife made, the knifemaker forms a suitable Kydex sheath (etc.), the color scheme of which (sheath and accessories) matches the colors of the blade and handle to create a cohesive set. The materials used determine the knife’s specific applications. For instance, models with black PVD or DLC coatings and Kydex sheaths in dark colors will certainly appeal to fans of military-tactical solutions, especially considering that all sheaths can be mounted to the MOLLE system, harness elements, or tactical backpacks. On the other hand, designs in more vibrant tones will surely cater to the preferences of hiking and outdoor enthusiasts.
Nomad And Top-Tier MagnaCut Steel
**FULL-TANG CONSTRUCTION**: This knife features a full-tang construction, meaning it is made from a single, carefully selected piece of material that extends through the entire length and width of the handle. At the core of this design is premium-grade American CPM MagnaCut steel.
**MAGNACUT**: CPM MagnaCut steel, produced by the renowned Crucible Industries, is the most advanced product from this American manufacturer (as of August 2023). This powder metallurgy steel stands out among other high-performance steels from the same company. It offers:
**EXCELLENT CORROSION RESISTANCE**: Its corrosion resistance surpasses that of steels such as S90V, S35VN, S45VN, and 20CV, making it highly user-friendly with minimal maintenance.
**OUTSTANDING TOUGHNESS**: Its resistance to impact and stress is comparable to highly durable American 4V stainless steel and European Vandis 4 Extra. It significantly outperforms steels like CPM 154, 20CV, S45VN, S35VN, and S90V in this category. While its edge retention is slightly lower than the ultra-hard but more challenging-to-sharpen S90V and 20V steels, it remains highly durable.
**EXCEPTIONAL VERSATILITY**: MagnaCut is a well-balanced steel that excels in nearly every aspect valued by knife users—stainless properties, lateral toughness, and edge retention
The Ultimate Outdoor Blade
**OPTIMAL IMENSIONS**: The Nomad knife’s dimensions contribute significantly to its versatility. Its ideal length (9 inches / 230 mm) makes it perfect for general outdoor use, while the blade thickness (ranging from 0.16 to over 0.2 inches / 4 to 5+ mm), shape, and materials make it suitable for bushcraft, survival, and even tactical applications. The knife is well-suited for kitchen and camp tasks (such as food prep and whittling) while still being robust enough for heavier camp chores like piercing and chopping.
**INNOVATIVE BLADE DESIGN**: The blade features a classic, multipurpose drop-point profile with a unique dual grind. Its flat-ground tip reinforces the blade in this area, while a false edge enhances penetration capability. The concave/hollow grind in the middle section is ideal for cutting, carving, and peeling, offering superior slicing performance and reducing material adhesion to the blade.
**5.6 MM OF POWER**: With an unusually thick spine (5.6 mm / 0.22″) for a knife of this size, the blade is built for demanding survival tasks. Despite its robustness, the thinner, hollow-ground section in the middle ensures excellent cutting performance.
**JIMPING**: The spine of the blade features jimping—textured notches that enhance grip when pressing the knife into the material being cut. This feature allows for more precise control, better edge guidance, and increased effectiveness in high-pressure cutting tasks.
A Standout Handle Design / Exclusive FatCarbon
**HANDLE CONSTRUCTION**: The slim, ergonomic oval handle fits securely in the hand, and its subtle contouring helps prevent slipping onto the cutting edge. The rounded spine, extending slightly beyond the handle on all sides, enhances grip comfort and stability.
**EXCLUSIVE FATCARBON**: The handle scales are crafted from exclusive carbon fiber produced by FatCarbon, a globally recognized manufacturer from Lithuania. The construction is further reinforced with liners made of highly durable G10 composite. G10 is resistant to moisture, temperature fluctuations, most solvents, and acids, offering exceptional mechanical durability. The textured surface of the handle scales enhances grip, preventing slippage. The scales are secured with stainless steel Torx screws, finished to match the blade.
**THOUGHTFUL DETAILS**: At the end of the handle, there’s an oval-shaped lanyard hole for attaching an additional cord—useful as a safety measure to prevent dropping the knife during use or as an extended grip for easier sheath retrieval. The knife comes with a matching paracord section included.
Holstex Holster And Personalization Of Carrying Options
**HOLSTEX**. The knife has a holster made of hand-formed Holstex material, which is characterized by high impact and scratch resistance, characterized by low moisture absorption, resistant to various weather conditions and many chemicals.
**CARRYING OPTIONS**. The holster is attached to the belt using a textile loop. It is equipped with pass-through holes that can be optionally used to secure the holster to a backpack or tactical gear using cordage, rope, or paracord. The holster is wrapped with paracord, matching the color of the section near the knife.
The sheath allows for customization of how it’s carried. To achieve this, the knifemaker designed:
- an optional Kydex buckle, which can be mounted on a belt or MOLLE* systems. The clip is not part of the standard set and can be purchased HERE. The clip designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems. To mount it, first remove the module with the nylon loop.
- An additional option for customizing carry style is an angled buckle designed by the maker, which allows you to carry the knife on your belt at a chosen angle, either more discreetly or visibly. The clip can be ordered HERE.
*The buckle designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems. To attach the buckle, simply remove the module with textile loop.
