Description
MK Knives & Tools Claw “FuturePunk” is the knife from karambits family. Originally, karambit was created in distant times in Malaysia and the Philippines, and its shape was inspired by the claws of large predatory cats. Characteristic for its construction were a curved blade and an inverted handle with a finger hole. Claw by MK refers to this style, but its blade has a straight cutting edge, which definitely increases its functionality.
Due to its construction, the Claw knife can be suitable for tactical use and for the needs of uniformed services. It will work when cutting ropes, plastics, materials that are difficult to approach, but also rubbing it will be more versatile in everyday life. Due to its design, Claw will be very effective for trimming plants, tree branches, etc.
- This Claw features a blade made of high-strength Vanadis 23 steel with a black DLC coating. The blade features an innovative double-groove grind and a fuller on both sides. The finger grip typical of karambits is made of gold-colored anodized titanium, which makes this particular design stand out.
- The handles are made of Green Canvas Micarta with black G10 liners.
- A sheath is black Kydex sheath with a nylon is loop for the very first time for this model. The holster features iconographic engravings characteristic of the “Fear the Bear” series.
‘Fear The Bear’ Series – A Tribute to Nature
The ‘Fear The Bear’ series was created by MK Knives & Tools out of a need to show respect for wildlife. The bear head symbol on the sheath is not just a decoration – it is a sign to remember that people are guests in the natural world. Forests, mountains and plains have their inhabitants. Just like paw prints on the ground, MK knives from this series feature a bear paw print – a symbol of responsible presence in the field.
Claw Knife – Your Everyday Companion
Claw is produced from different types of steel (Elmax, Vanadis 4 Extra, Vanadis 23 etc.), with different ways of finishing the blade (PVD coating, DLC coating, glassblasting, stonewash, satin). The handle is usually made of a G10 composite, micarta or carbon fiber with a variety of colors and different original patterns chosen by the knifemaker. For each knife, the knifemaker forms a suitable holster from kydex / holstex, whose colours (holster and accessories) match those of the blade and handle to make a consistent set.
About Presented Realization of Claw Knife
**DESIGN/SHAPE**: The Claw knife shouldn’t be considered a classic karambit blade. It’s a knife inspired by the karambit family, but in the MK Knives & Tools version, it offers much greater versatility:
- The blade isn’t curvedâit has a straight cutting edge, making it more versatile for everyday use (EDC).
- The edge line runs on the same plane as the handle, which isn’t curved like in classic karambits, but at most arched on the spine. This allows the handle to be gripped at various angles and from any side, making it comfortable to use. The most classic grip, for example, where the entire hand grips the handle and the thumb runs along the spine, allows for whittling, which would be difficult with a traditional karambit.
- The narrow point is excellent for piercing materials, and the tip itself is suitable for precision cuts and for difficult-to-reach areas with a blade.
Excellent Steel as the Core of the Knife Construction
**STRONG STEEL**: Presented knife is made of one piece of Vanadis 23 tool steel. The steel used in the knife is an extremely durable material, very hard, resistant to overload, abrasion and chipping.
**EXCELLENT COATING**: The knife has been coated with a black DLC titanium coating (Diamond Like Carbon coating with hardness ~90 HRC, maximum in the scale is 100 HRC!), which additionally strengthens the steel and improves anti-corrosion properties. The coating has anti-reflective properties and protects the blade before corrosion.
Grind And Blade Shape for Efficient CuttingÂ
**BLADE PROFILE AND GRIND TYPE**: The blade features a Wharncliffe profile with an innovative double groove grind. The deeper center section penetrates the material even better, and the reinforced point easily reaches hard-to-reach places.
**JIMPING**: On the back of the blade there is a jimpig, which makes it easier to press the blade of the knife to the material being cut. This element enables precise cuts, makes it easier to guide the cutting edge along the material and helps with cuts that require pressure.
Durable Knife Handle
**HANDLE DESIGN**:Â The handle, inspired by the Karambit, features a finger hole for a secure grip.
**HANDLE FEATURES**:Â The underside of the handle features an undercut that perfectly fits the fingers of virtually any hand. Whether you use a classic or reverse grip, it’s simply very comfortable. The handle features a milled pattern characteristic of MK knives, which provides anti-slip protection and improves grip.
**HANDLE MATERIALS**. The handle scales are made from Micarta and G10. Both laminates are created using epoxy resin, but they differ in their base materialsâMicarta is made with canvas, while G10 is reinforced with fiberglass. In both cases, the materials are produced by compressing the base material and epoxy resin under high pressure. Micarta and G10 are highly resistant to moisture, temperature changes, most solvents and acids, and offer excellent durability against mechanical damage. The scales are attached with sturdy Torx screws, which blend seamlessly with the knife’s design.
Kydex/Holstex Holster And Personalization Of Carrying Options
**KYDEX/HOLSTEX**. The knife has a holster made of hand-formed Kydex/Holstex material, which is characterized by high impact and scratch resistance, characterized by low moisture absorption, resistant to various weather conditions and many chemicals.
**CARRYING OPTIONS**. The holster is attached to the belt using a textile loop. It is equipped with pass-through holes that can be optionally used to secure the holster to a backpack or tactical gear using cordage, rope, or paracord. The holster is wrapped with paracord, matching the color of the section near the knife.
The sheath allows for customization of how itâs carried. To achieve this, the knifemaker designed:
- an optional Kydex buckle, which can be mounted on a belt or MOLLE* systems. The clip is not part of the standard set and can be purchased HERE. The clip designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems. To mount it, first remove the module with the nylon loop.
- An additional option for customizing carry style is an angled buckle designed by the maker, which allows you to carry the knife on your belt at a chosen angle, either more discreetly or visibly. The clip can be ordered HERE.
*The buckle designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems. To attach the buckle, simply remove the module with textile loop.
