Description
MK Knives & Tools Nomad Tanto knife is a versatile and universal blade. Planned as the first-choice tool for outdoor trips, camping, and extended stays in the wilderness, its modern yet understated design is likely to appeal to a wide range of users. Traditionalists will appreciate its optimal dimensions and shape, which utilize natural hand grooves, while fans of modern solutions will appreciate the materials used in the manufacturing process and the finishing techniques.
Nomad is the knife that would undoubtedly answer the question of which blade to take when you can only choose one tool (to be able to work with it as universally as possible). Among all MK Knives & Tools models, the Nomad can be used in the most versatile manner.
*The presented Nomad has a blade made of excellent Eurpean Elmax steel with ‘Camo DLC’ finish. The tanto profile knife blade has been made with a grooved (hollow) grind to obtain better cutting properties and its tanto tip is characterized by a flat grind, which together with the bevel on the dorsal side (swedge) emphasizes the knife’s penetrative properties.
**The 5 mm (0.2″) thick blade combined with particularly resistant to overload steel provides excellent cutting properties and resistance during demanding use. The handle linings are made of Olive Canvas Micarta with black G10 liners. The set includes a holster made of OD green Kydex with FDE Fall additions. The nuances on the blade, the colors of the handle and the pictograms on the holster are characteristic of the “Fear The Bear” series.
‘Fear The Bear’ Series – A Tribute to Nature
The ‘Fear The Bear’ series was created by MK Knives & Tools out of a need to show respect for wildlife. The bear head symbol on the sheath is not just a decoration – it is a sign to remember that people are guests in the natural world. Forests, mountains and plains have their inhabitants. Just like paw prints on the ground, MK knives from this series feature a bear paw print – a symbol of responsible presence in the field.
Nomad Knife – Versatility and Universality
The Nomad knife is produced from various types of steel (Elmax, Vanax, Vanadis 4 Extra, Vanadis 23, etc.) with different blade finish methods (PVD coatings, DLC, acid-etched, stonewash, satin). The handle is crafted from G10 composite, micarta, carbon fiber (carbon, FatCarbon) with diverse colors and unique patterns meticulously selected by the knifemaker.
For each knife made, the knifemaker forms a suitable Kydex sheath (etc.), the color scheme of which (sheath and accessories) matches the colors of the blade and handle to create a cohesive set. The materials used determine the knife’s specific applications. For instance, models with black PVD or DLC coatings and Kydex sheaths in dark colors will certainly appeal to fans of military-tactical solutions, especially considering that all sheaths can be mounted to the MOLLE system, harness elements, or tactical backpacks. On the other hand, designs in more vibrant tones will surely cater to the preferences of hiking and outdoor enthusiasts.
Blade Created For Outdoor Life
Premium Steel As A Core of the Knife Construction
**EXCELLENT EUROPEAN ELMAX STEEL**: The knife’s construction is based on excellent, high-quality Elmax steel, known worldwide in the knife industry, sourced from European UDDEHOLM mills. Elmax steel blades offer outstanding performance features: long-lasting sharpness, corrosion resistance, and reliable durability, including high wear resistance and strong resistance to mechanical damage.
**SOLID CONSTRUCTION**: This knife features a full-tang design, where the steel runs through the entire length and width of the handle, to which the scales are securely attached. This is the most durable and reliable construction found in fixed-blade knives.
**CAMO FINISH**: The blade features a Camo DLC finish. The darker areas on the steel are coated with DLC*, while the lighter areas are uncoated steel. The shades blend harmoniously to create a âCamoâ pattern.
*DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating offers an impressive hardness of around 90 HRC â with 100 HRC being the maximum on the scale! The coating also provides anti-reflective properties.
Accurate Knife Dimensions
The dimensions of the Nomad knife determine its very universal use. Accurate length (230 mm), predisposes it to various outdoor use, while the thickness of the head (5 mm), shape and construction materials used make it useful for more serious bushcraft, survival and even tactical activities. The size of the knife will allow for skillfully performing kitchen and camp work (preparing meals, planing, etc. ), but it will also make it possible to perform heavier casual camp tasks (stabbing, punching, etc.).
Grind And Blade Shape for Efficient CuttingÂ
**BLADE PROFLE**: The knife blade has been profiled in the tanto style with innovative groove grind (GG / hollow). It is visible at first glance in the form of characteristic grooves on both the correct blade and the false blade. The concavity of the cut is very subtle and, in addition to the visual effect, is designed to support the cutting process (it reduces the effect of the material sticking to the blade and facilitates splitting of the material).
**JIMPING**: On the back of the blade there is a jimpig, which makes it easier to press the blade of the knife to the material being cut. This element enables precise cuts, makes it easier to guide the cutting edge along the material and helps with cuts that require pressure.
Durable Knife Handle
**THE SHAPE AND DESIGN OF THE HANDLE**: Slender, neat oval of the handle fits very well and lies firmly in the hand. Its gentle profiling helps to prevent the hand from slipping onto the cutting edge. The rounded spine protruding from each side of the handle makes the knife comfortable and secure.
**HANDLE MATERIALS**: The most commonly used handle materials in MK Knives & Tools are:
- Micarta â a composite made of layers of fabric impregnated with resin and pressed under high pressure. It is warm to the touch, has a natural texture, and develops a unique patina over time, highly appreciated by fans of classic design.
- G10 â a laminate made of fiberglass and epoxy resin, extremely durable and resistant to water, temperature, and chemicals. It has a more technical appearance and maintains perfect stability in all conditions.
- âĄïž In practice: Micarta offers a warmer, more organic feel, ideal for everyday use and work with gloves, while G10 provides maximum durability and a secure grip even in harsh, wet environments.
**PIN FOR LANYARD**: At the end of the knife handle there is a pin for attaching an additional cord, which can be used as a protection against dropping the knife during work, or an additional gripper that facilitates removing the knife from the holster. This solution also allows you to protect the knife against loss. Originally, a section of paracord with a shade matched to the design was attached to the knife. Pin with paracord attached to it, can be used to attache your favourite ornament e.g. knife bead.
Kydex/Holstex Holster And Personalization Of Carrying Options
**KYDEX/HOLSTEX**. The knife has a holster made of hand-formed Kydex/Holstex material, which is characterized by high impact and scratch resistance, characterized by low moisture absorption, resistant to various weather conditions and many chemicals.
**CARRYING OPTIONS**. The holster is attached to the belt using a textile loop. It is equipped with pass-through holes that can be optionally used to secure the holster to a backpack or tactical gear using cordage, rope, or paracord. The holster is wrapped with paracord, matching the color of the section near the knife.
The sheath allows for customization of how itâs carried. To achieve this, the knifemaker designed:
- an optional Kydex buckle, which can be mounted on a belt or MOLLE* systems. The clip is not part of the standard set and can be purchased HERE. The clip designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems. To mount it, first remove the module with the nylon loop.
- An additional option for customizing carry style is an angled buckle designed by the maker, which allows you to carry the knife on your belt at a chosen angle, either more discreetly or visibly. The clip can be ordered HERE.
*The buckle designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems. To attach the buckle, simply remove the module with textile loop.
