About the presented executions of T7L knife
Premium steel as the core of the knife construction
The presented T7L knife is made of CPM 3V powder steel. It is steel produced by the American company Crucible Industries, known for the production of CPM S35VN, CPM S45VN, CPM S90VN and others from this family. CPM 3V is chosen for the production of large-size knives due to its resistance to chipping and very high resistance to overload. This steel wears slowly and remains sharp for a long time. CPM 3V steel is not stainless steel, so to make it easier to care for, the presented knife is finished with the acid-stonewash method, which gives the blade a dark color and perfectly masks any imperfections that may arise during use. The knife is made of one piece of steel, i.e. it has the so-called full-tang construction, probably the most durable construction used in fixed blade knives.
Shape and blade grind
Blade with a 4.4 mm thick spine, made in the drop point style, with a flat grind, ensures smooth cutting and performing various tasks (piercing, planing, baring, grubbing, preparing meals, etc.). There is 135 mm blade at our disposal, the spine of which is deliberately sharpened, allowing for efficient work with the flint.
On the spine of the blade there is a jimpig, which makes it easier to press the blade of the knife against the material being cut. This element enables precise cuts, makes it easier to guide the cutting edge along the material and helps with cuts that require pressure.
Ergonomic Micarta handle
Handle scales are made of Micarta. Micarta is a material resistant to moisture, temperature changes, most solvents and acids, with high resistance to mechanical damage. The covers in the presented model have characteristic cuts (grooves) improving grip. The covers to the handle were attached with hexagonal screws (hex type).
The handle has a delicate finger undercut that prevents the hand from slipping over the cutting edge, reducing the risk of injuries. There is a hole at the end of the handle, which is used to additionally secure the knife against loss (it can be tied with a rope, paracord, etc.). You can also attach a section of paracord with or without a bead, which can be used as an ornament or as an additional gripping element that makes it easier to remove the knife from the sheath.
Hand-made leather sheath
The knife is carried by a completely handcrafted brown leather sheath. The sheath is made of high-quality vegetable-tanned leather. The stitches were made with thick threads with a massive stitch. The edges are nicely finished and smooth. The scabbard has a large eyelet for attaching to a belt, and the knife itself is secured against falling out by a belt loop with a massive latch.
