Description
TRC Knives Polheim MagnaCut DBCM is outdoor knife made by a Lithuanian manufacturer.
Polheim is an evolution of the previously produced K-1s knife, a great universal blade from the TRC Knives offer. Compared to K-1s, Polheim offers a slightly thinner blade and a higher grind, which improves cutting efficiency. Subtle slimming of the blade (from 3.8 mm | 0.15 ” to 3.5 mm | 0.12″), using the modern MagnaCut steel known for its strength, gave great utility effects. Enlarging the undercut in the blade (choil) is designed to make sharpening even easier, and the jimping in the new style refers to the best features of the South Pole knife. The changes also affected the handle. The grip linings gained a new texture, no less grippy than the older one found in the K-1s, but emphasizing the separateness of the new model. The presented Polheim got covers from a new material known as Double Black Canvas Micarta, much darker than the standard Black Canvas Micarta. The covers were attached with a new type of stainless steel rivets, harmonizing with a bead of the same material braided on the knife. The changes also affected the kydex holster. It is true that the styling known from previous performances and, as always, durable kydex material were used, but it was equipped with an American Ulti-Clip clip for easy and more convenient carrying.
TRC Knives
Lithuanian brand founded by knifemaker Andrius Tricius. The manufactory located in Ukmerge is the workplace of a small but experienced TRC team. Individual works in many cases are carried out manually by qualified team members, the subsequent stages with the use of machines take place under the watchful eye of specialists. All this to maintain the highest standards of manual, precise craft production. By definition, production is limited, and the quality of workmanship is the highest priority of the brand and its founder. The TRC Knives offer includes knives for survival, bushcraft, general outdoor, everyday use (EDC) and tactical tasks made of the best materials available on the market. Knives made by TRC present great usability, and more or less limited editions are desirable in the world of collectors.
Standards of workmanship
The process of making each knife is meticulous and very critical. Any member of the small TRC team during any of the production stages has doubts and notices even a minimal deviation from the established standard – the knife does not leave the workshop. This means that all cuts, roundings, gluing are made with maximum precision and TRC is more likely to agree to a delay in delivery than to “release” an unpolished copy.
Polheim. The first choice knife in the field
Excellent MagnaCut steel
Polheim is a full tang knife (made of one carefully selected piece of material running the entire length and width of the handle) made of the highest quality CPM MagnaCut steel. CPM MagnaCut steel, produced by the world-renowned Crucible Industries company, is the most advanced product of the American manufacturer. Sinter stands out among other excellent types of steel from this manufacturer. Corrosion resistance is greater than in the case of, for example, S90V, S35VN, S45VN or 20CV steel. Overload strength similar to very strong, rust 4V, significantly exceeds in this respect the parameters of the following steels: CPM154, 20CV, S45VN, S35VN and S90V. The strength of the cutting edge, on the other hand, is inferior only to the S90V and 20V steels known for their hardness, but more difficult to sharpen. To sum up: we are dealing with a steel with very balanced properties, however, it excels in virtually every area appreciated by knife users (stainlessness, lateral strength, cutting edge retention).
Universal blade for any kind of tasks
The blade with a spine thickness of 3.5 mm (0.12″) made in the drop point style will meet most tasks that can be encountered while in the field. Work in wood or more subtle tasks, such as preparing a meal, are natural tasks for this knife. The blade is made with a flat grind, supports the process of smooth cutting and performing various tasks. There is jimping on the spine, which is a support for the thumb during cuts that require the use of greater force. The knife has a guard, which together with the undercut for the finger in the handle prevents the hand from slipping onto the cutting edge during work. The rounded ridge protruding from the handle improves comfort and grip.
Ergonomic handle
The handle linings with an ergonomic, oval shape are made of Micarta. Micarta is a material resistant to moisture, temperature changes, most solvents and acids, with high resistance to mechanical damage. Micarta, known for its excellent properties, also visual (can be stylized as a natural material) has a non-slip, rough structure. The facings themselves were glued and mounted with tubes consistent with the overall design of the knife (sianless steel rivets). The entire precisely designed structure makes the handle fit the hand very well and the grip is strong and secure. At the end of the handle, there is a hole for attaching an additional cord, which can be used as protection against dropping the knife during operation. Originally, a decoration in the form of a stainless steel bead was pinned to the hole.
Kydex holster
Knife comes with holster made of hand-formed black kydex material, which we attach to the belt with the UlliClip (US Made). The clip allows you to mount the whole thing on a belt or on the edge of a pocket inside or outside
To facilitate the removal of the knife, which fits very well in the tight-fitting material, a thumb support has been planned, thanks to which the knife can be removed in a controlled and safe manner. Kydex itself is a very durable material that is characterized by high resistance to impacts, scratches, low moisture absorption, resistance to various weather conditions and many chemicals. We use holsters made of it comfortably and for a long time. The holster is equipped with pass-through pins to which you can attach, for example, a flint holder (not included in the set) or use them to attach it to a backpack, harness element or Molle type solution.
