About Nomad knife in general
Nomad knife is produced from different types of steel (Vanax, Elmax, Vanadis 4 Extra, Vanadis 23 etc.), with different ways of finishing the blade (PVD coating, DLC coating, glassblasted finish, stonewash finish, satin etc.). The handle is made of various type of materials: G10 composite, micarta, carbon fiber and so on with a variety of colors and different original patterns, precisely choosed by knifemaker. For each model, the knifemaker forms a suitable holster from Kydex (or another material), whose colours (holster and accessories) match those of the blade and handle to make a consistent set. The materials used decide on a more precise use of the knife. For example, models in black PVD or DLC with a Kydex holster in dark colours will surely be of interest to those who prefer military-tactical solutions, considering also that all holsters can be mounted to the MOLLE system, harness components or tactical backpack.
About the presented execution of Nomad knife
Premium steel as the shank of the knife construction
Presented knife is made of one piece of Elmax steel. It is a knife with a full-tang construction, where the steel runs the entire length and width of the handle to which the covers have been attached. Full-tang construction is the most durable type of construction found in fixed-blade knives.
Elmax premium steel blade has excellent utility features: long-lasting sharpness, stainless steel and reliable durability (high resistance to abrasion, high resistance to mechanical damage).
The knife has been coated with a black DLC titanium coating (Diamond Like Carbon coating with hardness ~90 HRC), which additionally strengthens the steel and improves anti-corrosion properties. The coating has anti-reflective properties.
Accurate knife dimensions
The dimensions of the Nomad knife determine its very universal use. Accurate length (230 mm), predisposes it to various outdoor use, while the thickness of the head (5 mm), shape and construction materials used make it useful for more serious bushcraft, survival and even tactical activities. The size of the knife will allow for skillfully performing kitchen and camp work (preparing meals, planing, etc. ), but it will also make it possible to perform heavier casual camp tasks (stabbing, punching, etc.).
Grind and blade shape for efficient cutting
The knife blade has been profiled in the drop point style with innovative groove grind (GG / hollow). It is visible at first glance in the form of characteristic grooves on both the correct blade and the false blade. The concavity of the cut is very subtle and, in addition to the visual effect, is designed to support the cutting process (it reduces the effect of the material sticking to the blade and facilitates splitting of the material).
On the back of the blade there is a jimpig, which makes it easier to press the blade of the knife to the material being cut. This element enables precise cuts, makes it easier to guide the cutting edge along the material and helps with cuts that require pressure.
Knife handle
The shape and design of the handle
Slender, neat oval of the handle fits very well and lies firmly in the hand. Its gentle profiling helps to prevent the hand from slipping onto the cutting edge. The rounded spine protruding from each side of the handle makes the knife comfortable and secure.
At the end of the knife handle there is a hole for attaching an additional cord, which can be used as a protection against dropping the knife during work, or an additional gripper that facilitates removing the knife from the holster. Originally, it includes a section of paracord in a shade matching the color of the knife.
Handle materials – Exclusive FatCarbon and G10
The handle linings are made of unique and exclusive FatCarbon material under which there are thin black G10 spacers. G10 composite. G1o is resistant to moisture, temperature changes, most solvents and acids, and has high resistance to mechanical damage. In the presented knife, the cover material has a rough pattern that prevents the handle from slipping in the hand. The handle covers have been screwed with steel screws, the finish is consistent with the design of the blade.
Kydex holster
The knife has a holster made of hand-formed kydex material, which is characterized by high impact and scratch resistance, characterized by low moisture absorption, resistant to various weather conditions and many chemicals.
The holster is attached to the belt using a textile loop. It is equipped with pass-through holes that can be optionally used to secure the holster to a backpack or tactical gear using cordage, rope, or paracord. The holster is wrapped with paracord, matching the color of the section near the knife.
For tactical enthusiasts, the knifemaker has designed an optional Kydex buckle that enables mounting on a belt as well as MOLLE-compatible systems*. The buckle is not included as part of the original set but can be purchased separately HERE.
For additional customization options, the knifemaker has designed an angled buckle that allows the knife to be carried in the holster on the belt at a chosen angle, offering a more discreet or pronounced carry style. You can order the buckle HERE.
* The buckle designed by the knifemaker is compatible with MOLLE systems. To attach the buckle, simply remove the module with textile loop.
