About standards and the knifemaking process at MK Knives & Tools
Knifemaker Marcin Kampka does not recognize compromises. Each of its products is planned down to the smallest detail, each project, especially the custom one, must have individual features. Each knife must have a perfect finish, grinding, chamfering, etc. All screws – even the smallest ones – are gently chamfered to remove angular finishes. Each knife is treated as a separate whole and the holster is treated the same way. One must fit the other, the patterns on the holster must be consistent with those on the handle, etc. Mirroring every MK Knives & Tools knife we see not only the product, but we “feel” the hours spent in the studio. When we buy Marcin Kampka’s product, we buy many hours of his work. We can be sure that the knife has been polished to the smallest detail.
About the presented version of the Spike knife
Premium steel as the core of the knife construction
The presented Spike knife is made of one piece of Elmax steel (chrome-vanadium-molybdenum powder steel). So it is a full-tang knife. Elmax is one of the few steels available on the market in the absolute top quality of materials used in the production of premium knives. Knives made of it are extremely resistant to overload, stay sharp for a long time and have excellent anti-corrosion properties.
Grind and blade shape for effective cutting
An interesting fact about the knife’s performance is the innovative hollow grind. It is visible at first glance in the form of characteristic grooves on both the correct blade and the false blade. The concavity of the cut is very subtle and in addition to the visual effect, it is designed to support the cutting process (it reduces the effect of the material sticking to the blade and facilitates splitting of the material). Complementing the innovative cut is the wharncliffe style blade, which allows you to take full advantage of the tip of the cutting edge, which is especially important when making precise cuts, stabbing, etc.
The spine of the blade has a jimpig, which makes it easier to press the blade of the knife to the material being cut. This element enables precise cuts, makes it easier to guide the cutting edge along the material and helps with cuts that require pressure.
Ergonomic skeletonized handle
The ergonomic, skeletonized handle lies firmly in the hand. All edges located on it have been precisely ground to make the grip fully comfortable. The holes in the frame body, apart from the aesthetic impression, are useful for attaching an additional section of paracord. Originally, a section of paracord with a steel MK bead was placed in the hole at the end of the handle. It is a solution that improves grip, makes it easier to remove the knife from the holster, and gives the user the feeling of holding a larger tool in the hand than it really is.
Refined Kydex holster and various mounting options
The knife has a holster made of hand-formed Kydex material, which is characterized by high impact and scratch resistance, characterized by low moisture absorption, resistant to various weather conditions and many chemicals. In the presented model, the holster is made of black material.
We attach the holster to the belt with a black kydex buckle, which can be mounted to MOLLE solutions. The initial mounting of the buckle allows the entire belt to be mounted vertically. However, it is possible to change the position of the buckle in a way that allows for more discreet horizontal mounting (along the belt, on the back or in the front on the hip belt). Then just unscrew the buckle and change its position. Strongly stable fastening (if we prefer it) can be obtained additionally by tying the holster through the through holes in it.
A neck knife for quick use
The Spike knife is a lightweight design knife, also ideal for carrying around the neck (as a neck knife). To attach it to the neck, we can use any solution, such as paracord, string, chain, etc., which we attach to a holster adapted to this.
